High Level Stroke Group

Led by a speech-language pathologist and an occupational therapist, the High-Level Stroke Group at Holy Family Hospital has tapped into a true need with patients who have experienced a mild stroke.

Despite their formal 1:1 treatment being long-over, patients’ desire to have ongoing dialogue to discuss changes in and strategies around language, cognition, memory and other high-level executive skills has created a strong bond among a unique group of individuals, currently all men over the age of 65, who are eager to come together to discuss a variety of issues which impact their lives.

Last year, monthly sessions with the group members’ spouses, with the assistance of a social worker, has also been added to the bi-monthly group. Some members have come regularly for over five years when it was first initiated and only miss a session due to illness or an extended vacation.
