In early 2017, Providence Health Care announced its intent to initiate a joint planning process with Comox Valley’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and Glacier View Lodge to determine if the three organizations can join forces under the Providence banner.
If the amalgamation occurs, the focus on developing a campus of care that is envisioned to provide seniors with plenty of social interaction, the ability to be outdoors, and the feeling they live in a place that is connected to their community – all pillars to a further shared goal of continuing to shift residential care from an institutionalized medical model of care to a model which provides modern, convenient homes and a community that seniors want to live in. Discussions are ongoing, but we do know that this potential partnership marks the beginning of an exciting era in seniors’ care and hospice in the Comox Valley.
Also earlier this year, St. Michael’s Centre (SMC) and Providence initiated a joint planning process to determine if the two organizations can come together under the Providence banner in a shared commitment to strengthen seniors’ care and hospice services in Burnaby. This potential amalgamation opportunity would build upon and enhance the outstanding existing relationship between St. Michael’s and Providence. Since January 2012, St. Michael’s has contracted management services from Providence.
