Officially operational in April 2017, the new BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) is seeking to dramatically improve the substance-use disorder system of care.

Under the direction of Dr. Evan Wood, program director for substance-use disorder services at Providence, the BCCSU serves as a provincial resource hub for clinicians, researchers, educators and care providers to network and learn from substance-use disorder specialists, and is aimed at strengthening the health care system for those struggling with problematic substance use.

The creation of the BCCSU is thanks to funding from the provincial government and generous support from a private donor, and builds on the model of the renowned BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, a model internationally recognized for its success in significantly reducing new HIV cases and halting HIV progression in BC.
